Todd Hunter, Deputy National Communications Director
M. Todd Hunter, a U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, was appointed Deputy National Communications Director of the more than one million-member DAV in June 2022 and assigned to the DAV National Service and Legislative Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
A life member of DAV Chapter 10 in Fairfax, Virginia, Mr. Hunter enlisted in the Marines in March 2005. His career included service as a combat correspondent with American Forces Network Okinawa, American Forces Network Afghanistan, and at Defense Media Activity Headquarters at Fort Meade, Maryland.
Mr. Hunter holds numerous individual decorations and unit awards for combat service and humanitarian assistance. He has also earned more than 20 national awards for military broadcast journalism, including being named 2009 U.S. Department of Defense Broadcast Journalist of the Year and U.S. Marine Corps Broadcast Journalist of the Year on three separate occasions. Mr. Hunter was honorably discharged in August 2013 and later served as an intern at the White House Office of Digital strategy during his graduate studies.
Mr. Hunter holds a Master of Arts degree in Strategic Communication from American University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Thomas Edison State University. He is also a graduate of Syracuse University’s Military Motion Media program, as well as the Basic Public Affairs Writers Course, Basic Public Affairs Broadcasters Course, Advanced Electronic Journalism Course, and the Broadcast Management Course at the Defense Information School at Fort Meade, Maryland.
A native of Orlando, Florida, he currently resides in Herndon, Virginia, with his wife, Karen, and three sons, Brody, Riley and Finley.
